Bio

Lily Evans was born a muggle, raised by her mother and father, with a sister, Petunia (later Petunia Dursley). When she was 11, and much to Petunia's jealousy and eventual disgust, she received a letter from Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry telling her that she was, in fact, a witch. She was obviously very pleased and her parents were thrilled. She probably attended Hogwarts around the same year as James Potter and the rest of his friends.

Lily had dark red hair and startling green, almond-shaped eyes. She cared about those around her and stood up for people being hurt--even Severus Snape ('Snivellus'), despite the fact that he was ungrateful and called her a - horror! - "mudblood" and such. From her first to sixth year, Lily abhorred James Potter's arrogance, calling him by his surname only despite the face that James was absolutely smitten with her. We are not certain which house Lily was in at Hogwarts but it is usually assumed she was in Gryffindor along with James Potter and Sirius Black.

By her sixth year, however, James and the crew were maturing and in time she began dating him and eventually they married a few years after graduating from Hogwarts. Lily was excellent at Charms and also a strong ally against the ever-powerful dark lord Voldemort. She and James were members of the original Order of the Phoenix when the graduated from Hogwarts, along with Frank and Alice Longbottom, Dumbledore, Sirius, and some of their other friends from school. For their safety, the Potter's were urged to perform the Fidelius Charm--a spell that would protect them from Voldemort, as he would never know where they were unless told by their secret keeper. Despite Albus Dumbledore's protests, James made Sirius Black their secret keeper as he trusted him with his life. Sirius, knowing that as long as he was the secret keeper, the Potter's were in danger, as Voldemort would know to suspect him. In his place, Peter Pettigrew, alias Wormtail became the secret keeper, though niether Black nor the Potter's knew that Pettigrew was working for Voldemort in secret.

They were dangerous times. Thrice Lily and James defied Voldemort, so they must have come face to face with him several times. They, however, were too strong to turn to the Dark side. In the midst of the chaos, Lily bore a son, Harry James Potter on the last day of July. At this time, Albus Dumbledore was in the presence of Sybill Trelawney, future Divination teacher of Hogwarts. The woman, taken over by Seeing forces told Dumbledore a Prophecy that would change the Potter's lives forever:

The one with the power to vanquish the Dark Lord approaches... Born to those who have thrice defied him, born as the seventh month dies... and the Dark Lord will mark him as his equal, but he will have power the Dark Lord knows not... and either must die at the hand of the other for neither can live while the other survives... The one with the power to vanquish the Dark Lord with be born as the seventh month dies...

The prophecy pointed to Harry, or Neville Longbottom, son of Frank and Alice, who was also born on the last of July. Voldemort chose Harry as the more dangerous of the two and after Wormtail betrayed the Potter's, set out to their house at Godric's Hollow on Halloween night, 1981, killing James, and then Lily. James tried to stall Voldemort while Lily tried to escape, but too late; she faced him to, begging him to kill her in Harry's place. Voldemort told her to stand aside, but eventually he killed her too and then attempted to kill Harry. Lily, however "did not have to die" as Voldemort said. Because she gave her life saving Harry, however, Harry lived against the Avada-Kedavra curse and... well, you know the rest of Harry's story...
